Application Steps and Fee Schedule

The following application and program fee schedule is for Gateway Global Learning Network’s ‘Global Washington’ internship program. This program allows qualified international students or graduated professionals to live in the US and work in US internships (paid or unpaid) for up to 6 months duration. To qualify, international participants must be currently enrolled in a college or university, or if they have already graduated be within one year after graduation.

Working professionals who have graduated from a college or university and have at least 5 years of professional work experience beyond graduation are also eligible. Gateway is a partner organization with Cultural Vistas, a designated US State Department sponsor of J-1 visas for visiting international participants. To approve a J-1 visa request, the US State Department requires that the application is endorsed by both a US designated sponsor (Cultural Vistas) and a partner educational organization (Gateway).

1) $2,500 USD Program Fee due upon admission to program: Paid directly to Gateway, this starts Gateway’s customized internship placement assistance, and professional development instruction and coaching over several months, aimed at participant gaining a quality internship placement offer. Program coaching and instruction at this stage is also aimed at participants making the most of their time living/working in the Washington, DC area. Once a participant gains a qualifying DC internship offer, the participant’s application for the J-1 Visa can begin.

2) $4,500 USD Program Fee due upon confirmation of internship placement: Paid directly to Gateway, this starts Gateway’s assistance in a participant’s applying for and securing their J-1 Visa and covers all on-site DC class meetings and internship liaison services, DC program events and workshops, and facilitation of participant’s networking and mentoring relationships with DC professionals.

3) $1,345 USD J-1 Visa Fee and SEVIS Fee: This fee covers Cultural Vista’s processing of the official State Department application for the J-1 visa, and is paid directly to Cultural Vistas.

4) $420 USD Required Health and Accident Insurance: This fee and insurance coverage is mandated by the US State Department and is paid directly to Cultural Vistas.
